Robert Schick

Obituary of Robert V. Schick

Robert V. Schick, age 79, late of Shorewood, and formerly of Oak Forest, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 29, 2023 at Lightways Hospice Home, with his loving family by his side.

Born May 11, 1944 in Chicago, he was the son of the late Vernon Wagner and Irene Katherine (Keim) Schick, grew up in the Beverly neighborhood, and was a graduate of Morgan Park High School.  He then attended Lincoln College prior to joining the United States Army, serving from 1965 to 1967, including a tour of duty in Vietnam as a Medic.

A proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, he worked as an electrical operator for Commonwealth Edison, and later for Midwest Generation, retiring with over 30 years of service.

The qualities that served him well throughout his life were his dedication to work and family, his loyalty, and his integrity and hard work.  He enjoyed traveling with his wife and family, had a love for vintage cars, and was the proud “papa” attending his grandsons’ sporting events.

He married the love of his life, the former Janet Kovac, and they enjoyed 52 years of marriage until his passing.  She survives along with three beloved children, Michael Robert Schick of Tinley Park, Laura Schick of Joliet, and Julie (Oscar, Jr.) Charles of Cedarburg, WI; four adoring grandchildren, Dylan (19) and Jacob (17) Schick and Eleanore (11) and Everett (7) Charles; two loving sisters, Marjorie (the late Ralph) Halstrom and Lois (Herbert) Kuehnle; and two fond nephews, Daniel and Douglas Halstrom.
