Raymond L. Berard

Age 93, of Wedron, IL and formerly Joliet, IL for many years, passed peacefully at home, Saturday, June 17, 2023.

Ray was born June 25, 1929, to the late Lila (nee Sanders) and Paul Berard in Joliet where he was raised and educated. He was a U.S. Army Veteran who served during the Korean War.

On May 16, 1953, he married Norma Graver at the Cathedral of St. Raymond in Joliet.

In addition to Norma, his beloved wife of 70 years; he is also survived by his granddaughters, Victoria "Torie" (Jamie) Evans, and Allison Berard (Craig Waxweiler); dearest great-granddaughter, Adeline; brother, William Berard, sister-in-law Shirley Berard. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, Tony Bromberek, Ken (Jane) Bromberek, Kim (Jerry) Tadej, Donna Robinson, Steve (Angie) Berard, Billy Berard, Avia (Randy) Spencer, Kathie (Will) Merritt and several great nieces and nephews, including Nicole Schaefer, Madison, and Kyle Bromberek.

Preceded in death by his son, Howard Berard, his parents Paul and Lila, his sister Shirley (Don) Hoffman, sister-in-law Riva Berard, and brothers Ronald (Joann), and Edward Berard.

Ray, steadfast and true, was as patriotic as they come. He proudly served his Country and his community after he returned from active duty service. He was a longtime member of American Legion Post #1080 where he could often be found along with Norma, volunteering without hesitation, whenever called upon.  Ray was also a member of VFW Cantigny Post #367.  He retired from American Steel and Wire after many years of dedicated service.

He will long be remembered for his love of family, friends and the many good times boating and relaxing on the Fox River.

A Memorial Gathering for Ray Berard will be held Friday, June 23, 2023, from 4-7 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 1201 W. Rt. 6 (at Deerpath Drive) Morris. A prayer service will conclude the evening beginning at 7 p.m. As it was Ray's wish cremation rites have been accorded.
